It's true - that's our mission...creating Friendly Plastic Addicts one friend at a time. And the best thing about this addiction is it offers no harmful side effects! Only creative fun and a chance to escape some stress!
I say if Cool2Craft can put out a call for 1 Million people who think it's cool to craft we can do the same!! 1 Million FP addicts huh?
Many of the techniques you see here were inspired by internationally known artist Liz Welch
I thought you would enjoy this post by Jen Lowe
Last time, I posted about teaching 1 person who taught another person.....and how you can grow a craft that way.
This blog is about how one person took what she learned here, and made numerous pendants from that same "class" - she is growing her Friendly Plastic skills by leaps and bounds.
Here's what my good friend Shelly made - all done with Friendly Plastic. We're teaching the world, one friend at a time!!!
Which one do you like best???

Wow! What a great opportunity to make some great art....and make someone smile at the same time! I think this is a wonderful idea! Please keep Jen and her husband Kerry in your thoughts and prayers as they go thru this tremendously difficult time and show your support by making Kerry laugh! You know they say "laughter is the best medicine!". I know we all want to wish him a very speedy recovery!
Jen outlines the details:
One of my internet pals suggested this (thanks sasha!) and I'm going to run with it - all on my own!!!
Kerry is going to have 5 bypasses done and I need to find ways to cheer him up. So how about I sponsor a little Friendly Plastic contest called:
Make him feel better soon!
You simply make something/anyting out of friendly plastic, and send us a photo of it. I will show him the photos and the one that makes him laugh the most will be the winner. I'll happily gift you a generous set of Friendly Plastic sticks and/or pellets!! And if he laughs really hard, I'll double the prize!!! And if Amaco wants to get involved, I'll send you whatever they send me! Hmmm.....this could turn out to be a pretty good contest.
Just remember - the whole idea is to make him smile! So if you've never made a thing with Friendly Plastic - you probably have a better chance of winning than the pros!
How much Friendly Plastic do you have to use in your project? I think at least 25% - I have to be able to see the plastic. But you could make it 100% Friendly Plastic.
Hint - hint - he's a guy, so it could be fun to make tools out of pellets, medical equipment - a nurse? I'm sure someone could even fashion the entire surgery unit out of pellets! He loves our chihuahuas - so an "altered" puppy would be a good idea. Better yet - a cat that was altered by a puppy......LOL!!
Contest starts today and the deadline will be on March 15. Now since there's no mailing involved, let's just say midnight that night on anyone's time zone!!!
If you don't know my email address, go to the blog's website and click over on the right just below the copyright line.
We don't know yet when his surgery will be, but let's say that the winner will be announced on March 16 and if that happens to be the day surgery gets scheduled, I'll post a different day here.
Feel free to share this contest with your yahoo groups, friends and family.
Well.....I didnt do so good on the picture taking today....I really was too busy! The day just flew by.
Jen WOWed everyone with colourizing pellets - (sorry no pic...bad me!) showing how to use alcohol inks, die cut and emboss with pellets..a real hit!
Jana continued her fracture and fusion series - always popular!
And I continued the pellet series with colourizing and using molds - again...no pic!! I need more arms!
Before the show though I was able to sneak over to the ETI booth - makers of Envirotex, the clear resin that we use to make Friendly Plastic look like glass - and snap a couple of pictures they had using Friendly Plastic and Envirotex! Great Job Designers!
These ink pens were designed by Mylene Hillam - well known to the blog...great job Mylene!
Tomorrow we will have the reception which I am priveleged to emcee and the winners will be announced! Congratulations to all our participants!!!

It's crunch time! CHA begins this coming Sunday. So much to do and so little time!!!
Here's a sneak peek at one of the demo's Jen Lowe will be featuring at AMACO booth (#2409) - Friendly Plastic Pellets and molds....a great combination! (Let's give a little shout out to KRAFTY LADY TOO! Thanks to Kristine at Krafty Lady who has generously donated molds to demonstrate with!
Jen Lowe writes:
Hard to imagine that these are actually embellishments made from Friendly Plastic Pellets!!! Easy as 1 - 2 - 3!!!
1. Melt pellets in skillet. Add color, press into mold, cool
2. Tear hand made paper 2 1/2" x 4" and place on top of card. Place embellishment on top of that
3. Hand write your very own sentiment.
That last one is my favorite. How about you? Which one do you like the best? Mom will pick the cat, for sure!!!
Stop by the Amaco booth-2409 at CHA and I'll show you how to use Friendly Plastic Pellets, a large variety of colorants, and Krafty Lady molds to make quick easy embellishments for you cards and layouts.
I can hardly wait for the party to start!!!

If you wanna have a fun day......Call up Jen Lowe and ask her to play! Read on!
I had so much fun on Saturday. My little friend, Topanga, came to play. I had made her the most fun face in Friendly Plastic and she was happy to pose as my model!
It's set in a KandCompany bezel - about 2" in diameter. So easy to make - 100% Friendly Plastic, 100% guaranteed to put a smile on a little girls face!
Panga is 10 years old.....and look out - she's already a fantastic artist and it's her goal to study art when she goes to college. I told her she can come play with me any day!!!

Today's blog is a reflection....and how artist Jen Lowe uses her convictions as portrayed in her artwork. This also goes along with the Butterfly Project sponsored by AMACO with regard to the holocaust.
Here are Jen's thoughts:
Tonight's topic is Penance - thinking reflectively about your life's path--and what changes you might want to enact.
Penance is defined as a feeling of regret for one's wrongdoings. Last year,I talked about making penance art. But it was penance for what happened to the Jewish children killed in the Holocaust. My feelings of regret for what someone else did that was wrong.
Several months ago, I started tonight's project. There's over 80 hours tied up into the making of it. Not something you can do in a day. But I think huge, time-consuming pieces of art are necessary every now and then in order to make us stop and give thought to what we are trying to accomplish.
Notes of Hope - my gift to Amaco because of their generosity in supporting the Holocaust Museum in Houston. If you read my blog, you know that they have sponsored a contest for the second year - making butterflies, 1.5 million of them, one for each child who died in the Holocaust.
Notes of Hope - is a collaborative piece. While the design and majority of it was completed by myself, I have contributions from Linda Peterson, Jana Ewy and Liz Welch. And we all 4 have signed the canvas. It's big. 20" x 16". Considering that strips of Friendly Plastic are only available in 1" widths.....just imagine how much product was used to create this!!! And in the process of making it, I've spent many hours thinking about the art the world has lost in the death of all the children...and the children's children that they might have had.
Notes of hope - I have a lot of them!
This canvas represents just about every technique imaginable in Friendly Plastic. It is a labor of love!

One of the most frequently asked questions is how to cut strips of friendly plastic evenly. Jen Lowe has developed a method that will make cutting thin strips a snap....and save your wrists too!!
Thanks JEN for sharing the video with us!
I've come up with a great way to cut your Friendly Plastic into strips - both 1/4" and 1/8" with very little effort. Using a Logan Mat cutting system.
this system will run you about $30 - when it's half off at Hobby Lobby. But....I've made a modification that I'll try to share in the next few days that will get you TWO systems! And I like my modified cutting system even better! Sure beats using a knife and a ruler!

I really do have the most wonderful hardware store in the world! McGuckins. It's in Boulder, Colorado. You can spend days inside this store. Not to mention when they put up the giant tent and have a sidewalk sale!
And....they carry Friendly Plastic pellets. Now, why on earth would a hardware store sell pellets? Well, take a look at my video and you will see!
I showed this to Kerry, who has been playing with micro electronics this week. He proceeded to melt some pellets and form a ball on top of some mini lights. When he plugs it into his circuit board, the plastic ball lights up! LOL!
When he gets it "perfected" - I'll video that. But you know guys - do they ever get anything "perfect"? I imagine he will be playing with pellets for some time to come. I may have to put them under lock and key!!!
