THE CRAFT CRITIQUE shares a recent trip to Stitch and Craft in the UK

Saturday, April 24th, 2010
Today we take a "virtual tour" across the pond as they say to the UK where Craft Critique Fabrizio Martellucci shares his day at UK's Stitch & Craft trade show.  Here's an excerpt that he shared about Friendly Plastic:

We stopped at another booth and saw The Frame Workshop & Molten Designs who are the main distributor in the UK for Friendly Plastic. I couldn't help talking pictures of the stunning creations made using that product. I have to thank my dear friend Maria Given Nerius who has sent me Friendly Plastic goodies when I won a competition on her Pajama Party Radio Show. I haven't used them yet but after seeing those projects from Molten Designs I definitely will give it a go in the near future.

Entangled in Zentangle and Friendly Plastic

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010
"ZENTANGLE".....that name is fun to say!  But what is it?  Well....that's what I wanted to know when I listened into last Sunday's Inspired at Home Radio show.  Suzanne McNeill of Design Originals was a guest speaking about two of her latest books on that very subject.

Simply put..Zentangle is a higher form of doodle art!  It's perfect for those of you who tell me that you dont have a creative bone in your body or for those of you who say you can't draw.  But it does involve a bit more than that. It involves the whole creative process of sinking yourself into creativity and just letting your thoughts flow.  It's a huge stress reliever and requires no thought process.  It's done in pen and ink - so there are no mistakes and no erasing.  It's a journey thru life....you know  - life, when you make mistakes, want to erase them but you can't so you find another way around the obstacle....that kind of thought process.  It's discovery....

So....after the show I went to Design Originals website and ordered both books.  Being the impatient person that I am (and Im working on that....) I didnt want to wait for the books to arrive...I wanted to dive in!  So I did.  And naturally I thought....how can I combine this process of Zentangle ....with Friendly Plastic...

I struggled with a few ideas, made alot of mistakes and had some not so happy flops...but the journey led me to this...and while it may not be true Zentangle....it was a creative process that I will be developing as the days go by........

This is a bead that I made with Friendly Plastic sticks and pellets combined.  And it was loads of fun...not a quick process but it was a fun discovery.

Next, I decided to keep the plastic flat, rather than develop it into a bead.  This design was inspired by Moorcroft Pottery and a trip I took to their factory back in April 2008.

Details on how to create Zentangled beads will be featured in our next FPTV video - which will be taped tomorrow and hopefully live on Friday.

CHA SHOW HIGHLIGHTS

Thursday, January 28th, 2010
Tuesday, the production staff of When Creativity Knocks, Megan Arujo and I, taped a 3 minute demonstration using AMACO's newest product - Cloud Clay featuring the pasta machine. This segment will be available to view on the WCK website beginning February 12th - so cast your vote for us!! Check out their website for details!

The show this year was smaller than in years past. Even still this was an exciting show!

As for as trends - there was a big trend towards food crafts! Scrapbooking papers featured fun- food items, diecuts in cupcake and party food shapes. ProvoCraft debuted a fondant cutter - very similar to the Cricut machine. So look for fun, whimsical food shapes all the way from die cuts to jewelry charms. I guess this means I should cook??? Hmmmm...maybe I'll cook up some "chocolate" friendly plastic candy treats and fool my friends!

In Amaco's booth, Designers Michelle Zimmerman and Helen Bradley featured foodcrafts of their own as they created fun cupcakes in all sizes from Amaco's newest product release - Cloud Clay! This clay is soooooo light an airy - and when dry - well you honestly just can't take your hands off of it! For kids - it's like a "party in a package".

Initially it feels like a squishy stress ball but as it dries it becomes bouncy. Available in 7 colors with black and chocolate brown on their way! Air Dries fully in 24 hours.

For kid-friendly Project's featuring this brand new clay - see the latest issue of Pack-O-Fun magazine on your newstands now!

ATTN: Teachers, Camp Coordinators, Art Instructors, Girl and Boy Scout Troop leaders - Cloud Clay will have a blog and educational/social network center all its own soon! So keep checking back!

Beading and jewelry making seem to be an ever growing category with the attendees not being able to get enough! Designers such as Katie Hacker(Katydids) , Jill MacKay (Jill MacKay Collection) debuted their new signature lines. As always jewelry making is always a popular and less expensive way to accessories and dress up your fashions without alot of added expense...plus it's fun too!

My latest book "Beading In No Time" by Cico Books was released. It's 178 pages of creative jewelry ranging from beginner to intermediate skill levels...and I am happy to say that YES! It does have some Friendly Plastic projects in it...along with a host of others! Click here for more Info

Inspired at Home held a live pajama party as well as a live radiocast of the show. Get all the details on their website: http://www.inspiredathome.com/

CHA is really an overwhelming collection of creative talent! High five to the hundreds of designers who frantically worked long hours into the night to make this event successful for all the exhibitors in attendance!

Coming up in the next couple of days - a new FPTV video featuring pellets and molds. You wont want to miss it!
