She writes:

I covered three pieces of a straw with text paper and painted them silver along with the corrugated. Once dry, I dripped green patina eco friendly paint over the corrugated. I singed a piece of light green organza and using wire I sewed the friendly plastic piece to it. These are the leftover pieces from the key ring and brooch projects. Using silicone glue I attached the organza and friendly plastic and the painted straws to the background. I added a piece of string to hang.

Friendly Plastic inspiration from an "Enchanted" castle

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010
We recently featured Kate Charles on the blog and THANK YOU to our subscribers for checking out her website - she reports nearly 500 hits that week alone!!!

She writes:

The tower is made from small "stones" of FP, mainly pewter and silver,
covered in a variety of materials eg voiles, skeleton leaves, micro beads
or patterned with stamps. When all the pieces were assembled the tower as
burnished with rub'n buff in golds and silver. Small ivy leaf cut outs
were then attached to the tower with a soldering iron. The inside is
painted with acrylics.

I learnt so much on Liz's course that my head is full of new ideas. Your
amazing blog is also inspiring - I'm scrounging old bottles of nail polish
to make my own coloured sticks to work with - what a brilliant idea."

Wow!!! Kate was inspired by a Castle......tell me...what inspires you??

Friendly Plastic goes on the road to the Creative Connection Event

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

It was a great honor to be representing Amaco and Friendly Plastic this weekend at The Creative Connection event held in Minneapolis, MN.  Here's a little night time view from the 18th floor of the Hyatt Hotel seated in downtown Minneapolis.

Somehow you just know it is going to be an awesome day when you're greeted at the breakfast table by creative "new" friends and a a delicious yogurt parfait.

The event was host to 400 creative women from indie etsy artists, mommy bloggers, publishers, designers, TV show producers and so on representing 46 states and Canada. These women were just "itchin" to absorb all they could to take their businesses and their dreams to the next level and let me tell you...the talent in the HandMade Marketplace was beyond my wildest dreams.

I used this opportunity to connect and meet as many new creative friends as possible and of course to spread the word of just how awesome Friendly Plastic is.   Those who had heard of Friendly Plastic were so excited that this "retro" product is on a comeback mission and those who didn't....okay the way "younger" crowd....we're excited to hear about a medium they had never heard of before.

They had lots of opportunity to create with Friendly Plastic at the special Pajama Party Event which we held LIVE from the hotel. Over a hundred attended this event.

My table is excited and ready to go!!! Look at all those happy faces!

Once they learned how you can cut and stack and melt and heat and bond and marble and wrap Friendly Plastic....you couldn't pull them away!
One gal got so carried away...she made 4 pieces in about a half an hour...and she was still sitting there making more.  She just kept saying.."I LOVE THIS STUFF....I LOVE THIS STUFF!"

Everyone left the event with huge smiles on their faces and a goodie bag full of Amaco products to take home with them....now the next challenge....

How in the world to get it all home?!?!?!!?!?

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010
Another email I would like to share today:

Dear Linda Peterson,

I've been reading your blog for a few months now and I really love your finds.

I'm writing because I think my work would interest your readers.  Here's a link to my favorite item.  http://www.etsy.com/listing/51508191/art-necklace.
I started making my art ornaments and necklaces when my mural business slowed down.  I play around with friendly plastic, prints of my original paintings, wire, beads, gold leaf and even paint on the friendly plastic.  I get lots of compliments when I wear my necklaces!  I am having so much fun with this that I signed up for 2 craft shows in the fall and I have an etsy store.
Thanks for your blog and for supporting independent artist like me!

Dotty Spotty Knotty Beads by Mylene Hillam

Saturday, May 8th, 2010
FAQ- Can you create beads in Friendly Plastic? Well....here's proof!  Read Mylene's artricle about her bead making journey!

Or maybe you just call them polka dot! Got any idea what I'm talking about? No? Then read on........

I had a brilliant idea last night. Actually it came to me many months ago but it wasn't until last night that I could see how my idea might work. I've wanted to do this for such a long time but wasn't sure the idea would translate very well into Friendly Plastic and last night was the night I decided to test it out.

By now you must be thinking that I've come up with the most clever Friendly Plastic idea ever, but that couldn't be further from the truth. You see, I'm talking about Bumpy Beads, just like those colourful glass beads that glass artists make. But, as with many of the Friendly Plastic beads I make, they are not meant to mimic the real thing, I've just borrowed a style and translated it into Friendly Plastic. What a bunch of fun beads! And I've really enjoyed making them up into a these cool bracelets.
Vibrant pink and Black
Delicate Pinks
Dramatic Black
Soft Green and Blue

I'm thinking that this could go in a lot of different directions and I'll try to combine some other ideas with the spots in future bead making sessions so look out for those in the coming weeks. I'm also thinking this might mean making bigger beads so that I can incorporate different design elements on the one bead.

Hope you've enjoyed today's eye candy.

'Til next time,
Myléne

Mylene - These are simply gorgous and remind me of expensive blown glass beads!  You can find Mylene's work for sale on her website at:  www.milllanestudio.com
