It's true - that's our mission...creating Friendly Plastic Addicts one friend at a time. And the best thing about this addiction is it offers no harmful side effects! Only creative fun and a chance to escape some stress!

I say if Cool2Craft can put out a call for 1 Million people who think it's cool to craft we can do the same!! 1 Million FP addicts huh?

Last time, I posted about teaching 1 person who taught another person.....and how you can grow a craft that way.

This blog is about how one person took what she learned here, and made numerous pendants from that same "class" - she is growing her Friendly Plastic skills by leaps and bounds.

National Craft Month Tips on Jewelry Making!

I've posted on Facebook a call out for your favorite jewelry making tips....or ...just a creative tip in general. I love all the response I've been receiving. (remember to leave your tip on the blog via a comment or on Facebook and I'll enter you into a drawing to be given away next Friday!)

Here are of some of my favorites:

Cindy C. "When making jewelry for yourself, have something in mind that your going to wear it with. That way you can match or with medias like friendly plastic, polymer clay, etc you can create colors that will coordinate with your outfit. It will give you a great custom look"

Carol C: "Taking apart something I bought at a charity shop and combining it with my stash to make something new especially using chain maille. There are some wonderful weaves to try."

Melody B: "I like making various wire pieces up and then come back to them to put them together at a later date. Things always look different from a fresh perspective!"

Amy K: "Beading gives you the flexibility to work to your hearts content, and improvise as you go without losing valuable stock if you mess up :)"

Friendly Plastic Swirl Beads simulate Polymer Clay by Mylene Hillam

Friendly Plastic can replicate so many wonderful looks. As Mylene describes, these beads look similar to those made from polymer clay...only these have metallic BLING! Enjoy Mylene's post:

I had a brilliant idea one night this week. It was one of those light bulb moments! You know the kind..... the ones that come just as you're drifting off to sleep.

Normally when an idea like that hits I would reach over to jot it down in my Little Book of Big Ideas but four months after moving into our new house, we still don't have bedside tables and so my Little Book was not there. So I went over and over the idea in my head, working out every little detail hoping I might at least remember something about the idea come morning. Do I start with a basic cylinder bead? Should I roll it into a ball? When should I add the stripes? Do I use the hot water method or stick with the heat gun...... so many questions. It's a wonder I got any sleep at all.

So what was my brilliant idea, I hear you ask? Well, take a peek below!

These are my first experiments.... you can just make out the beginnings of a swirl forming. Not bad, but I'm sure I can improve the technique. So I tried a completely different method for the second batch and got much better results.... a swirl is definitely happening here! That's much more like what I had in mind. It's a similar effect to polymer clay swirl beads but it takes a totally different technique to achieve the effect in Friendly Plastic. I'm calling them Swirl Beads because they look just like their polymer clay counterparts.

As with most of the beads I make from Friendly Plastic these will get a coat of resin so that they can be turned into jewellery and then they'll be ready for my next jewellery project.

I'm off to play some more with this technique so I have some finished pieces to share with you soon.

FRIENDLY PLASTIC CONTEST – BY JEN LOWE DESIGNS

Wow! What a great opportunity to make some great art....and make someone smile at the same time! I think this is a wonderful idea! Please keep Jen and her husband Kerry in your thoughts and prayers as they go thru this tremendously difficult time and show your support by making Kerry laugh! You know they say "laughter is the best medicine!". I know we all want to wish him a very speedy recovery!

One of my internet pals suggested this (thanks sasha!) and I'm going to run with it - all on my own!!!

Kerry is going to have 5 bypasses done and I need to find ways to cheer him up. So how about I sponsor a little Friendly Plastic contest called:

Make him feel better soon!

You simply make something/anyting out of friendly plastic, and send us a photo of it. I will show him the photos and the one that makes him laugh the most will be the winner. I'll happily gift you a generous set of Friendly Plastic sticks and/or pellets!! And if he laughs really hard, I'll double the prize!!! And if Amaco wants to get involved, I'll send you whatever they send me! Hmmm.....this could turn out to be a pretty good contest.

Just remember - the whole idea is to make him smile! So if you've never made a thing with Friendly Plastic - you probably have a better chance of winning than the pros!

How much Friendly Plastic do you have to use in your project? I think at least 25% - I have to be able to see the plastic. But you could make it 100% Friendly Plastic.

Hint - hint - he's a guy, so it could be fun to make tools out of pellets, medical equipment - a nurse? I'm sure someone could even fashion the entire surgery unit out of pellets! He loves our chihuahuas - so an "altered" puppy would be a good idea. Better yet - a cat that was altered by a puppy......LOL!!

Contest starts today and the deadline will be on March 15. Now since there's no mailing involved, let's just say midnight that night on anyone's time zone!!!

Friendly Plastic – Cheaper than therapy!!!!

In these economic times, stress is something we deal with on a daily basis. Too much of it could just make you a crazy person! So....instead of spending your hard earned dollars on therapy...why not destress yourself and spend your money on something you are sure to enjoy, not only in the immediate future, but for years to come....get yourselves some "creative therapy!"

That's exactly what Jen Lowe and Peg Harper did! And I believe it worked! Read on:

Peg and I agreed we could sit and do this forever. Not just fun - but I think a bit of some kind of therapy involved here. So we wanted to show you the different looks you can get with the same stamp, same Friendly plastic - just using different colors and inking techniques. I used silver on this.....

And Peg used gold on hers....

How do you decide which one you like the best? LOL!
This next one is a much lighter impression - and I like it just as well

And these 2 are really deep impressions - with different inking techniques (above and below)
But all of these simply used alcohol inks, blending solution, 91% alcohol, stamps, and white Friendly Plastic strips.

And at $1.99 per strip - it really is cheaper than therapy!!!

OK, just one more night of ideas tomorrow and then on to something else!

I know we show alot of techniques with alcohol inks....they are about as versatile as the Friendly Plastic itself!!! Do you have a technique with alcohol ink that we haven't featured?? Send it to us and I'll send you a little bag o' goodies!!

Armature Wire, Wire Mesh and Friendly Plastic

We continue to grow!!! We are 230 + members strong on Facebook! We need more more more!!!

Im sure most of you are familiar with the Friendly Plastic Queen of texture, Liz Welch. We have soooo many new members, that I thought it appropriate to feature her again - especially since we are on the topic of Mixed Media with Friendly Plastic.

Liz combines armature wire (the silver wire), WireForm wire mesh and friendly plastic to create unique designs full of texture!

Armature wire comes in several thicknesses from 3/16" down to 1/16. Because it is made of aluminum it can be textured with a hammer or patterned with metal stamps. It bends so easily and provides a nice bold statement.

Wireform Mesh also comes in a variety of colors (aluminum, copper and brass) along with a variety of textures and styles. Just look at the texture in the Friendly Plastic once it is pressed up into the mesh...
