The ultimate insult in car interiors

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010
When auto industry writers don't like the appearance of a car interior, they pull out a word that's meant as a serious insult: plasticky. I saw it most recently in an Automotive News report on the new Mazda2. The interior...

Dancing Diva’s in Friendly Plastic by Karine Collignon

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

Karine's friendly plastic work is very refreshing and unique.  Her mix of wire, Friendly Plastic and beads lends a feel of 'movement' to her designs.

I looked at this piece and just couldn't help but put on some of my favorite music and dance.  It reminds me to dance...enjoy  life and be happy.

(Did you notice the little guitar accent??)  Well...I can only describe Karine's work in a few words - BEAUTIFUL AND BRILLIANT!

Karine's work is for sale and more information is on her blog at :  www.bijouxartcreation.com

For those of you who speak english, her website can be easily translated using google translate.

Charmed…Im sure!!! Friendly Plastic is great for swaps!

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010
Today's post is courtesy of google alerts that made me stumble upon CHICKEN LICKEN's CREATIONS.
I know you'll really enjoy her website which is chocked full of fun challenges and swaps!.

Friendly Plastic creates the focal hearts used in these charms...aren't these lovely?!?!?!?!  And what a great idea - a charm swap!  Swaps are a great way to share your creativity and passion for your art.  It's also a great way to get art too!!!  So why start a swap of your own?

If you're interested - I would be happy to post the details of the swap...for example how many participants, the theme, cost involved (postage), deadline and any other details on the blog.  As a swap-meister, you would be responsible for receiving everyone's swap goodies, dividing them out so that everyone gets one of everyone else's....and then mail them back.  Easy as pie!  and NO CALORIES!!!

Read on:

The delightful Minxy has arranged a charm swap on UKStampers. We all made 14 charms and post them to her and she is going to make them into bracelets for us! How lovely is that? These are REALLY bad photos but I tried each and every different way to no avail; these are the best ones.
The teeny hearts are friendly plastic (love this stuff!) and then I have just added "blue iris" crystal beads and some purple/blue seed beads interspersed with silver spacers. IRL(in real life) they are very twinkly in an understated purpley sort of way! Hope peeps like them!

Touting plastics to the Amish

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010
Here's a bit of marketing that caught my eye today: Igus Inc. is touting how a manufacturer of horse-drawn farming equipment is using one of its plastic products as an alternative to a traditional metal part. The release notes that...

Conventions crack down on ‘outboarders’

Monday, February 15th, 2010
Have you ever visited a trade show, then gone to a hospitality suite sponsored by a company not exhibiting at the show? It happens all the time, and people in the convention business call those non-exhibiting vendors "outboarders." According to...

The Key to Impressions in Friendly Plastic by Liz Welch

Monday, February 15th, 2010

The KEY to making a "good impression" - no pun intended - is to think outside the box....literally!.  Here Artist Liz Welch uses an impression of a door key to create this amazing texture, reminiscent of metalwork that would literally take hours- not to mention the costly tools necessary.

I love how Friendly Plastic can fool the senses!!! Great Job Liz!!

Now.....how far does your imagination go?  Why not give it a challenge.   Look for objects around the house that have interesting areas.  Maybe it is the holes in a sewing bobbin...or a coiled up piece of wire...or how about a buckle on a belt?

What is your KEY to a great impression?

Fine Art and Friendly Plastic by Suzette

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

Friendly Plastic has definately soared to new heights as is demonstrated by this gorgeous fine art wall art by Suzette.  This piece is titled "No 2 the same".

Just look at what her family and friends say about her:

Even at a young age Suzette was a free spirit  and certainly wasn't going to wait until she grew old to wear purple. In school, she routinely managed to escape the daily regime by concocting new ways to entertain herself and others in the classroom. Later, from props pulled out of the pockets of her overalls, she would create impromptu fun to break any monotony. And it was never safe to be around her if she had paints and a brush-your hands would turn into colorful animals and your face into her next canvas.

Suzette brought her innate sensitivity and understanding of the human spirit into her work as a Marriage, Family, and Child Therapist. She spent many years reaching out to young people and their families through counseling, art, drama, and play. She has written and illustrated a series of children's books, has her master's degree, and always takes time out for travel, adventure, and volunteer work.
There is something magical and contagious about Suzette's art that is reflected on the smiling faces of the people looking at her work. Brightly colored, innovative ties, mosaic-like framed art, and vivid wall sculptures express music, dance, play, humor, and her intrigue with the artistic expression of different cultures.
In short, Suzette's art reflects the person we know - colorful and vibrant; a human magnet whose whimsical style, fun-loving spirit and joy for life bring the child out to play for most everyone.

I can definately say that her personality shines in her work!  Suzette has a website where you can purchase her Fine Art pieces:  www.suzette.cc or you can email her at suz4art@aol.com

Brutal advice for family-owned businesses

Friday, February 12th, 2010
Don't blame the recession if your family-owned business is in trouble -- blame your performance. That's one of the messages in a Q&A interview with George Cloutier, author of "Profits Aren't Everything, They're the Only Thing." The interview is one...
