Chicago’s convention business needs a makeover

Monday, November 30th, 2009
Are government subsidies in McCormick Place's future? Or perhaps a major purge of all the politically connected managers from the convention agency payroll? The editorial pages of Chicago are lining up with calls for change, in the wake of SPI's...

Friendly Plastic – Make your own tools by Jen Lowe

Monday, November 30th, 2009

You know I couldnt resist pinching this off Jen's blog!!!!

Thanks Jen for sharing with us!

I really do have the most wonderful hardware store in the world! McGuckins. It's in Boulder, Colorado. You can spend days inside this store. Not to mention when they put up the giant tent and have a sidewalk sale!

And....they carry Friendly Plastic pellets. Now, why on earth would a hardware store sell pellets? Well, take a look at my video and you will see!

I showed this to Kerry, who has been playing with micro electronics this week. He proceeded to melt some pellets and form a ball on top of some mini lights. When he plugs it into his circuit board, the plastic ball lights up! LOL!

When he gets it "perfected" - I'll video that. But you know guys - do they ever get anything "perfect"? I imagine he will be playing with pellets for some time to come. I may have to put them under lock and key!!!

Chocolate Inspired Friendly Plastic……

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

Believe it or not the piece on the right "IS" a piece of chocolate. It came from the most beautiful box of chocolates that I believe I had ever seen, sent to Jen, Jana, Liz and I from Dawn Sandoe at AMACO while we were at the Starving Artist Playground.
I really... really... REALLY had a hard time eating this beautiful piece of chocolate - literally it was so beautiful and yes it tasted as beautiful as it looked....but.....before we took the bite...
Liz Welch and I sat down one evening and played with unusual things you could or maybe shouldnt combine with friendly plastic.
We first coloured a piece of white Friendly plastic (that parts a secret technique that we're not telling about yet). Next we layed fantasy film on top and applied heat and then stretched. The result - inspired by the colors of the chocolate was this lovely sample....that we haven't done anything with - YET~!...but we will continue to explore these possibilities...and eventually Im confident that it will make it's way to a beautiful piece of artwork...
It's a good thing it's not chocolate....it would have been eaten by now!

New Friendly Plastic TV Video – Glisten and Shine

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009
This is a brand new technique that I've never shown except at the Starving Artist Retreat in Colorado. Just a word of caution, do not use regular oil paints as it produces quite a awful smell when placed on the griddle. Genesis Paints are available thru AMACO - just email your questions by clicking here and they will hook you up.

Be sure to check out my etsy site too for more Friendly Plastic one of a kind jewelry! Makes great gifts too!

Linda Peterson is compensated and endorsed by AMACO. The guests features may or may not have any affiliation with AMACO.

It's been a rough couple of weeks for Chicago's trade show business, with yet more bad news today. The International Dairy Foods Association announced that its 2010 show will be held in Dallas instead of Chicago's McCormick Place. As was...
